Is Vaping Safe? A look at the recent news.

There are alot of media reports from the United States specifically regarding the safety of vaping. There have been reports of deaths but these have been attributed to the illegal use of THC cartridges. These bans are essentially over money and the various states protecting their income from tobbaco taxes. Vaping has been completely banned in India. Why???

The largest tobacco producers in 2016
20 Top tobacco producing countries as in 2018.

Vaping is banned in the following countries (* denotes a top tobacco producer) Argentina*, Brazil*, Brunei, Cambodia, Colombia, Egypt, India*, Indonesia*, Jordan, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, Panama, Philippines*, Qatar, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand*, Uruguay, Venezuela, Vietnam*

with restrictions in;

Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Norway, Japan and United States of America*.

If you were to do a search for highest tobacco use countries, you will generally find Andorra as the highest usage per capita. Andorra has a population of 76 00, otherwise some search returns will say Greece smokes the most. The fact is in the list above many of those also countries form part of the top 20 cigarette consumers as per 2010 study https://www.bmj.com/content/365/bmj.l2231Cigarette consumption estimates for 71 countries from 1970 to 2015.

In the end it is about money, and taxes and not the health of the citizens. It is partially understandable the tobacco industry feels threatened. It is a major global economic player, with billions of dollars in sales with billions of peoples livelihoods in terms of employment which is being affected. So, don’t believe all the news you read….

So Lets talk about Vaping

The Royal College of Physicians have a 200 page report regarding vaping, “Nicotine without smoke: tobacco harm reduction”, the experts conclude that e-cigarettes are beneficial to UK public and can be reassured that e-cigarettes are much safer than smoking and smokers can be reassured and encouraged to use them. The main key points include;

“E-cigarettes are not a gateway to smoking– in the UK, use of e-cigarettes is limited almost entirely to those who are already using, or have used, tobacco.

E-cigarettes do not result in normalization of smoking– there is no evidence that either nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) or e-cigarette use has resulted in renormalization of smoking. None of these products has to date attracted significant use among adult never-smokers or demonstrated evidence of significant gateway progression into smoking among young people.

E-cigarettes and quitting smoking– among smokers, e-cigarette use is likely to lead to quit attempts that would not otherwise have happened, and in a proportion of these to successful cessation. In this way, e-cigarettes can act as a gateway from smoking.

E-cigarettes and long-term harm– the possibility of some harm from long-term e-cigarette use cannot be dismissed due to inhalation of the ingredients other than nicotine, but is likely to be very small, and substantially smaller than that arising from tobacco smoking. With appropriate product standards to minimize exposure to the other ingredients, it should be possible to reduce risks of physical health still further. Although it is not possible to estimate the long-term health risks associated with e-cigarettes precisely, the available data suggest that they are unlikely to exceed 5% of those associated with smoked tobacco products and may well be substantially lower than this figure.”

Why Quit-it?

At Quit-It we believe that vaping is the safer alternative to traditional combustible tobacco products. I was a smoker (pack a day habit) and tried multiple times to quit over the years but vaping was the biggest help to me. Traditional vaping (2mg, 3mg and even 6mg liquids did not help initially). Nicotine salts were not as freely available years ago and smaller pod devices were only starting to come onto the market. Freebase MTL liquids were available but not nearly as pleasant years ago as what is available now.

I wish these were all available as it would have made it much easier as I have seen how much easier it has been for those who I have helped. Some have in fact quit from the moment of receiving their device. This lead me to create Quit-It to bring only the best products and local liquids to you at affordable prices.

I have personally helped many people to quit their smoking habit using pod based systems and have personally tested almost every device sold on the store (or have received reviews from trusted people in industry) and many of the liquids as well. This may explain why some devices are not sold on our site. At Quit-It, we believe in only selling devices which are of a good standard and will assist smokers in quitting. We have put together as much information as possible on the devices to take the guess work away and to make the experience of quitting smoking and switching to vaping easy and hassle free. We also offer great shipping options to make it as convenient as possible.  Please feel free to drop us an email at info@quit-it.co.za if you have any questions.
